Interesting comments - and great to see some momentum building up around these topics. I'd argue with Ms Relph-Knight however that if there were any 'first big conference on digital design' in London, that it would have been FOWD - having taken place back in April!

Yes, the Future of Web Design conference and many others preceded the iDesign event. Part of the problem has been the lack of traditional media coverage of past events, which leads people to think that what is happening is new or novel. And this is to some extent a result of the demise of new media focused publications such as New Media Creative and Create Online. More generally, the design industry and design education suffer for lack of sharing of the knowledge encapsulated in conferences.
